Books for the Most Vulnerable Children in LA County
In the best of times, children in the communities we serve have limited access to books. These are not the best of times. Access Books has been flooded by requests from teachers and principals to provide socioeconomically disadvantaged children with something to read. These students deserve the comfort, stimulation, and companionship a good book can provide.
In partnership with the Book Foundation, we are distributing books to the underserved students of Los Angeles County, but we need your support. Click the "volunteer" button below to see the latest opportunities for service at book distribution sites. Social distancing protocols will be in place.

If you can't volunteer with us, please consider donating to support this critical need. Don’t let our most vulnerable students fall behind academically, or miss the opportunity to escape through a good book. To avoid credit card transaction fees and make your donation dollars go further, you may also donate by check. Checks can be addressed to Access Books and mailed to 10325 Orton Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90064. For any additional information about this giveaway, feel free to contact [email protected].

In addition to cash donations, we are accepting new and gently used books appropriate for grades K-9 (no adult books). These books are for pleasure reading -- absolutely no textbooks, encyclopedias, or activity books. Additional guidelines:
- Think of your book donation as a gift. That is, please only donate books that you would feel comfortable giving a child for a birthday or holiday.
- Your donation should be in excellent condition and high-interest. Popular series and authors are encouraged.
- Books should be published within the last 5 years.
- Your trash is not someone else's treasure! All children deserve new, colorful, and popular books. Please donate old encyclopedias and well-worn books to the thrift store.
